About Supacem
Supacem is made by Continental Blue Investment (CBI Ghana) at its grinding plant in the Tema Free Zone — a serious mid-market brand rather than a budget one. Its distinction is technical: in 2025 CBI launched Supacem LC3-45, a limestone-calcined-clay cement that replaces roughly half the clinker with calcined clay, cutting the carbon footprint and, because clinker is the imported dollar-priced input, insulating the price a little from the cedi that drives every other bag on this page. It sells in 32.5R and 42.5R grades to the same GS and EN standards as the majors, so structurally it is a like-for-like choice. Around ₵109 a bag it sits in the middle of the range — dearer than the value entrants, a touch below Ghacem. For a builder who cares about the lower-carbon angle, or simply wants another quality option, it is a mainstream pick. Like all cement, confirm the day's price at the yard.
Is Supacem worth it? The numbers
Supacem cement for a three-bedroom shell (≈500 bags)
≈ ₵54,500
Cement only, at ~500 bags for a like-for-like comparison — not the full materials bill. A green figure is what you save on the cement line versus that brand.
Best for
Structural and general work where you want a quality bag: the 42.5R for columns, beams and slabs; the 32.5R for blockwork and plaster. The LC3 line also cuts the carbon if that matters to the project.
Watch for
Narrower distribution than Ghacem or Dangote — confirm your yard stocks it. Priced mid-market, so it is chosen for quality and the lower-carbon angle, not to save money.
How other brands compare
Common questions
How much is Supacem cement in Ghana today?
A 50kg bag of Supacem 42.5R (50kg 42.5R) is about ₵109 in Greater Accra, roughly 7% above the cheapest established major. Cement moves monthly with the cedi — confirm at the yard.Is Supacem good cement?
Supacem is CBI Ghana's Tema Free Zone brand and the maker of Ghana's first low-carbon LC3 cement. For a given grade the compressive strength is standardised, so Supacem's 42.5R is structurally equivalent to any other brand's 42.5R; brands differ mainly on bagging consistency and setting behaviour. Why does the Supacem price change?
Because cement tracks the cedi. Supacem is ground at Tema Free Zone, with an LC3 line that swaps about half the imported clinker for local calcined clay, and clinker and gypsum — cement's main inputs — are dollar-priced imports, so a weaker cedi lifts the bag price within weeks. Its more locally-sourced production softens that link a little, but it still prices with the market. How many bags of Supacem for a 3-bedroom house?
A standard 150-square-metre three-bedroom shell takes on the order of 450 to 550 bags of any brand, Supacem included. At ₵109 a bag that is a substantial line item, which is why the brand choice matters. The build calculator on the main build page estimates it for your size. What grade is Supacem cement?
Supacem 42.5R is 50kg 42.5R. The grade — not the brand — determines structural strength, so match it to the job: 42.5R for load-bearing structure, a lower grade for blockwork and plaster.
